The European Convention on Human Rights and Switzerland : 40 years dedicated to protection and promotion of human dignity

Member of Council of Europe since 1963, Switzerland ratified the European Convention on Human Rights in 1974. The Convention has since then exercised a very profound influence on both federal and state law, introducing in particular new references in fundamental rights and freedoms protection. However, one field still remains unsufficiently marked out by the Convention : partial revisions of the Swiss Constitution requested through popular initiatives.
